One of the very first institutions after creation, God designed the marriage institution as the complementing of the one man and the one woman in a family setting to promote the prosperity of humanity in a life that exemplifies the moral relational experience of the unity of the God head. For this cause the man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife and they two becomes “one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24). Drs Les and Leslie Parrot in their book Saving the Marriage before it Starts purports that two of the many myths of marriage is that, 1. “We expect exactly the same things from marriage”; 2. “Everything good in our relationship will get better.” Those myths are soon dispelled as we learn that what we expect seldom occurs, what we least expect and is grossly unprepared for generally takes place. That is what life is like.

The sad fact of life is that not everything gets better; there are many things that will improve in relationships but some things are not just challenging but difficult. Learning that we are complete in Christ and not in the love of the man the woman marries or the woman the man marries is one of the first steps in learning to live “happily ever after”.

Married for thirty seven years to my wife and just beginning to learn to please God in marriage I am prepared to share the secrets of mine and other couples who have weathered the proverbial and liters storms of life with you to encourage you of the possibility of a successful life together with your own wife or husband.
